Why asking “What have you got to [insert specific place] at [insert specific time]” will NEVER get you a good travel deal.
All of your friends who travel more and pay less know that “what have you got to [insert specific place] at [insert specific time]” is a sucker’s bet, and will always result in paying a minimum of 2 times what they could pay (and if they’re really good, 10 times what they normally pay).
They are signed up for every free travel service, and every paid travel service possible. They read dozens of travel blogs.
They scour the internet daily and cherrypick only the best-of-the-best deals. Most importantly – They plan months ahead.
By having that level of patience and discipline, they don’t have to settle for just any “good deal”…
They get travel deals like an attractive woman in a bar gets asked if she wants a drink.
Only once they see a deal that they absolultely can’t turn down do they look at their schedule and figure a way to make that trip happen.
But even then, they only pull the trigger on about 10% of the deals they contemplate.
Why? Just like the attractive woman in the crowded bar – they know there is a constant flood of amazing deals that will show up again. They just have to have the discipline to wait for just the right one.
There is one problem with the way they are doing it…
And that is the amount of time it takes to comb through the dozen+ free and paid travel subscriptions they are subscribed to.

What every one of my friends who says they wish they could travel like us doesn’t realize
When we’re at those parties getting grilled about our latest family vacation, all of our friends say they wish they could travel like us…
What they don’t realize (despite me constantly telling them) is they don’t have to wish, and the reason they don’t travel as often as we do is because they’re spending WAY more than they need to.
When you spend 2x to 10x as much as you should be spending, it’s easy to see why you make excuses for not traveling.
That sounds like a bold claim, but take a look at the numbers below. I’d be willing to bet most families pay as much on two or three vacations, as the 18 trips I listed below.
- We got to those 18 destinations for an average cost of $137 (75% below normal market price).
- Because of the times we travel, we probably use less “vacation days” than they do for their once-a-year vacation.

How are these deals possible?
- At various times before a scheduled flight (9 months, 6 months, 3 months, etc), if airlines don’t have enough seats booked, they slash prices on a handful of seats to get them filled.
- They’re not advertised because fares are rarely for more than 6 or 8 seats. As soon as they book them, prices go back up.
- Airlines have pretty sophisticated booking systems so it only happens about once every few hundred flights, but when they happen – my team and I make it our job to find them.
- When you see a trip you like, there is plenty of advance notice to plan ahead for vacation time. All you have to do is book it through the travel site of your choice.
